Today has been pleasant and fairly warm. And with old Punxsutawney Phil in Pennsylvania predicting an early spring, we must once again face the facts that not all of Earth's species are our friends.
With this thought in mind, I decided to share this Ogden Nash inspired ditty with you.
Swat and Grumble
The trouble with the skeeter
Is she thinks that she is neater
Than any other thing ever put upon this Earth.
She thinks there's nothing sweeter
Than a man from head to feeter
And to provide her daily food is the only reason for our birth.
She lurks there in the quiet
Till the time is right to try it
Then dive-bombs her victims till she's either stuffed or dies.
I cannot deny it
We could start a riot
By inventing a device to ensure her complete demise.
She doesn't ask permission
When she goes out a-fishing
Searching for the sweet aroma of our flesh and blood.
She gets her best nutrition
While we just lay there wishing
Noah had found a way to overlook her in the flood.
So think about the skeeter
And the ways we can defeat her
In this wicked little game she plays of cat and mouse.
For you can trust a skeeter
To be a sure repeater
Lurking in the shadows to attack you in your house.
I detest and hate mosquitoes.
ReplyDeleteI can say that with vehemence. We have them 12 months out of the year here, and I HATE them....
Amen and amen again. What else can I say? I have never been able to figure out just what God had in mind when that creature was created. - Karen
DeleteI must say that mosquitoes are terrible things but when one lands on me, I must have something they don't like..."Do I really want this mean woman's blood?", I imagine them thinking to themselves when BAM, down comes my hand and they are dead!!
ReplyDeleteKay, I am officially jealoous of you. Oh, that mosquitoes felt the same about me! Unfortunately I think that no matter what, my blood is attractive to them. Glad you have your natural protection, though. - Karen
DeleteYou really need to write more little "ditty's" of this type. You do well with them. :)
ReplyDeleteThank you very much, Elsie. Appreciate the kind words. - Karen
DeleteI liked the poem Karen. Yes, mosquitoes can be unpleasant creatures alright, but like Kay G they don't seem to like me either. But my wife and kids are a joy for them - Dave
ReplyDeleteLucky you, Dave, and another for me to be jealous of in the world of various and nefarious critters. But I'm really glad for you that you have this ability for mosquitoes to find you not so appetizing. - Karen
